This hand-dyed tenugui features a traditional yoroke-shima (wavy stripe) pattern, perfectly matched to the rainy-day scenes from the film, creating a refined and refreshing Japanese aesthetic. The cool navy blue helps bring a sense of calm during the rainy season and summer heat.
Because it is dyed using the traditional chusen technique, the color may bleed, especially at the beginning of use. The more you use it, the richer and more characterful the color and texture become—one of the unique charms of authentic hand-dyed tenugui.
Both ends of the cloth are left unfinished. With no sewn edges, it dries quickly, doesn’t trap dust or dirt, and is hygienic—ideal for Japan’s hot and humid climate. As you begin using it, the edges will naturally fray; simply trim the loose weft threads with scissors. After about 5–10 mm from the edge, the fabric will stop fraying on its own.
Care Instructions
Because of color bleeding unique to chusen dyeing, do not wash it in the washing machine. Hand wash only. With repeated washing, the color will settle and the fabric will become softer to the touchtaoru
